Showgirl

Showgirl is a Saltram Saga 36, built for long days at sea and oceans that don’t care about your plans. She’s the kind of boat that settles into her rhythm early and stays there. Solid underfoot, steady on course, and reassuring when conditions stop being polite.

I chose her because she combines two things that don’t always come together: real sturdiness offshore and a surprisingly good hull speed. She carries her weight well, moves efficiently through the water, and doesn’t feel overwhelmed when loaded for long passages. Being heavier than many modern boats means the extra equipment, supplies, and safety gear matter less to her balance and performance than they would on a lighter hull.

She’s also comfortable. Not just in a marina sense, but in the way a boat feels when you’ve been onboard for days, when rest matters, when the motion needs to be predictable rather than impressive.

Our Journey

Showgirl and I are growing into each other through preparation, miles, and decisions that matter more offshore than they ever do on paper. Every change made onboard has a purpose. Every sail chosen reflects respect for the ocean and the reality of being out there alone with it.

This journey isn’t about pushing limits for the sake of it. It’s about trust. Trust in the boat, in the setup, and in the process of preparing properly for what’s ahead. Showgirl carries that responsibility well. She feels like a partner that takes her role seriously.

The sea will do what it does. My job is to be ready. Her job is to carry us forward.
